Mikkel has enjoyed a varied working career with over thirty (30) years of aviation experience, twenty (20) years in law enforcement, and over five (5) years in the Compliance arena.

Currently, Mikkel is a Principal Compliance Officer with the Department of Immigration. In this role, Mikkel has remit over a team of fourteen (14) Senior Immigration Inspectors who are charged with enforcing the Bermuda Immigration & Protection Act, 1956 (BIPA), and its related policies. Their duties include, but are not limited to, compliance checks of businesses, enforcement, arrests, file preparations, court appearances, deportations, border security, and investigations. Mikkel’s role is to manage all the aforementioned processes to include staffing and resources, provide guidance with respect to policy and Legislation, and render operational support when required.

Prior to joining the Department of Immigration in 2015, Mikkel had an extensive aviation career working with various airlines from 1990 before joining Aircraft Services Bermuda Limited as a Flight Operations Officer. In this post, Mikkel was required to prepare and promulgate flight plans, weather briefings, and NOTAMS (Notice to Airmen) to Flight Crews of general aviation aircraft and air charter companies operating into Bermuda. Mikkel also performed customer service functions and overall management of the Executive Jet Facility when on duty. Mikkel later assumed the role of Airport Duty Officer with the Department of Airport Operations. In this capacity, Mikkel was responsible for managing the entire aerodrome facility (airfield and terminal) while on shift, and represented the Airport General Manager; specifically, afterhours and on weekends.

In 2001, Mikkel joined the Bermuda Reserve Police and steadily progressed through the ranks to his current role of Inspector. Mikkel has served as the Drill Instructor for the Bermuda Reserve Police and the Bermuda Police Service, supervised Reserve Officers in various Divisions, and has been the Officer in Charge of the Eastern Division, Central Division, Western Division, Crime Patrol, and in his present role, he manages the Roads Policing Unit and Reserve Coast Guard. Mikkel has also served as the Staff Officer to the Commandant and acted as Chief Inspector, Assistant Commandant, and Deputy Commandant during his tenure with Bermuda Reserve Police. For his dedicated service, Mikkel has received a Merit Award, Commissioner’s Commendation, two (2) Letters of Good Work, and was voted Reserve Officer of the Year. Mikkel is also the recipient of the Queen’s Jubilee Diamond Medal and the Colonial Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.

Mikkel has a passion for aviation and law enforcement, and he’s received extensive training in both areas. Equally, Mikkel has wide-ranging management experience and prides himself in being a team player and an extremely dedicated individual.
